Meet Hamish

I am a psychologist with expertise in health and sport psychology.

My aim is to bring warmth, compassion, and a pragmatic approach to therapy so that you can examine what is troubling you, consider what could be done differently, and make meaningful changes.

The types of therapy I most commonly use are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

FAQs

  • Therapy is not lying on a couch with your eyes closed! It is the process of talking confidentially about aspects of your life that are creating difficulty for you. Equally it could be because you would like support in creating positive changes in your life. My job is to listen, reflect and help you make new meanings from your situation. This will allow you to consider new ways of responding to the challenges you are facing.

The first 1-2x sessions are spent establishing your background, goals and how I can help you. The rhythm of therapy is agreed upon thereafter but most commonly a regular, recurring appointment time is established.

  • Sessions are 55min in duration. Other than that it depends on the person. 3-6x sessions can be enough for some people and up to 12x sessions is also common.

  • $215 (incl. GST) per session for health and sport psychology.

Please enquire for professional supervision rates.

  • I work with people aged 18 years and older.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desnesitisation and Reprocessing) was initially developed to help people overcome traumatic life events. It is now being applied more broadly based on the theory that any challenging life event can be stored in our minds in a way that makes it difficult to live or perform the way we want in the present. The process involves stimulating the brain’s natural way of processing memories and more information can be found here - https://emdraa.org/emdr-resources/

  • Cancellation of a session with less than 24 hours notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee. If a session is missed on the day the full session fee will be incurred.
